Prompt care is crucial in treating stroke patients. In the emergency department, our stroke care team quickly assembles a team of health care professionals and medical technology for the most positive outcomes, including minimally invasive clot-busting technology.
Bayfront Health Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda are Primary Stroke Centers with the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission. Our trained stroke care teams deliver potentially life-saving care for ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. The Primary Stroke Center certification designates hospitals with advanced technology, infrastructure, staff and training to receive and treat patients of all ages with all types of strokes. As a Primary Stroke Center, we:

B.E. F.A.S.T.
Knowing the signs of stroke can help save lives. The key is to BE FAST:
B Balance
Sudden loss of balance or coordination. Unexplained dizziness, unsteadiness or sudden falls.
E Eyes
Sudden dimness or changes in vision, particularly in one eye.
F Face
Facial weakness. One side of the face may droop when attempting to smile.
A Arms
Arm or leg weakness on one side of the body. When attempting to raise both arms, one will often drift downward.
S Speech
Trouble speaking or understanding speech. Words may sound slurred or strange. Difficulty repeating a simple sentence.
T Time
If you observe any of these signs, time is crucial. Call 911 or get to the hospital fast.
