We're here with life-changing help.
Bayfront Health Punta Gorda offers a voluntary and individualized drug and alcohol treatment program that provides medical detox for people suffering from abuse of, addiction to, or dependence on prescription drugs, street drugs, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and/or alcohol.
In a report by Drug Free Charlotte County, accidental deaths caused by prescription drugs increased by more than 58 percent in 2015. Morphine caused the highest number of deaths at 25, according to the Medical Examiner. Most deaths from prescription drug abuse were in combination with other drugs.
According to AmericanAddictionCenters.org, quality medical drug detox centers don’t use cold turkey methods or rapid detox kits; instead they provide medications and therapy to manage symptoms of withdrawal.
This type of program is exactly what we offer at Bayfront Health Punta Gorda. Individualized treatment includes working in conjunction with licensed medical doctors and registered nurses trained in chemical dependency withdrawal to lessen side-effects. Bayfront Health Punta Gorda offers treatment in a caring, supportive environment during all inpatient stays. The program is highly discreet and patients recover in comfortable, all-private patient rooms.
Our program is unique:
- Joint Commission Accredited acute-care hospital
- All-private patient room and bathroom
- Discreet, confidential and safe
- Medical physician supervised
- Hospital staff trained in alcohol and drug treatment services
- Personalized nutritional meal options
- Open visitation
- Three-day average length of stay
- Patients must be at least 18 years old
- Most commercial insurance, Medicare and private-pay sources accepted
We can lessen the effects of withdrawal symptoms from numerous types of drugs and substances, including:
- Alcohol. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, those suffering from a history of alcoholism are at risk of experiencing delirium tremens. This severe form of withdrawal can be life-threatening, so detox in a hospital setting is needed and highly recommended.
- Amphetamines. Sometimes referred to as “speed” and “uppers”, according to the Center for Substance Abuse Research, the collective group includes amphetamine, dextroamphetamine, and methamphetamine, and prescription medications containing amphetamines. These drugs can be highly addictive and have a long list of short- and long-term effects. With supervised detox treatment, these effects can be minimized and kept under control.
- Benzodiazepines. Also referred to as “benzos” or “downers”. These drugs slow the central nervous system and can lead to life-threatening complications during withdrawal. According to the DEA, these drugs are associated with amnesia, hostility, irritability, and vivid or disturbing dreams. Medical detox is highly recommended for those seeking help.
- Cocaine. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, cocaine is powerfully addictive and has a list of short-term, long-term and other health effects. Withdrawal symptoms can be unpleasant, but medical detox can lessen those effects.
- Opiates and Opioids. This includes heroin and prescription pain medicine, including morphine. These drugs can cause physical dependence, and according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, the withdrawal process can be very difficult and may be dangerous. Using a facility offering detoxification (detox) as a form of treatment is recommended.
