Inotropic Therapy
Inotropic therapy is used as a bridge to a heart transplant and as a way to control the symptoms associated with heart failure.
Hydration Therapy
Hydration therapy is used to prevent or reduce patient dehydration, associated with illness, surgery, or concurrent therapies (i.e. chemotherapy). Large volumes of fluids with added electrolytes are administered intravenously to balance the patient’s fluids. Reducing the incidence of dehydration can increase the rate of patient recovery.
Injectable Therapies
Injectable therapies are drugs which are administered via a syringe with attached needle. It is a rapid form of drug therapy administration and is often used with antibiotic administration.
Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)
When patients are unable to eat or drink via the mouth or by enteral (tube) feeding, parenteral nutrition is used. IV formulations compounded on a patient-by-patient basis are administered intravenously, delivering required nutrients directly to the patient’s bloodstream.
Antibiotic Therapy
Antibiotics are drugs that kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria, which cause infection. The drugs are administered intravenously, delivering the therapy directly to the bloodstream. Therapies can be long or short-term and can be administered from one to four times a day.
Antiemetic Therapy
Antiemetic therapies are drugs administered to prevent or reduce nausea and vomiting caused by certain disease states and concurrent therapies (i.e. chemotherapy). Drugs can either be administered via injection or intravenous infusion.
